How does PTA Support the School?
We think Island Lake is a great school! We take pride in knowing we have strong administrative leaders, committed teachers and staff in addition to parents dedicated to supporting our school. Parental participation and investment in the school is vital to our success.
Island Lake Elementary programs that benefit from PTA funds and volunteers:
Benevolence Fund: these funds are made available to purchase items for students in financial need.
Birthday/Bulletin Boards: create and execute creative work to celebrate students’ birthdays as well as uniqueness of each student at Island Lake and Snail Lake.
Book Fair: A social event for parents and students to shop together for new books to encourage reading.
Chess Club: staff and organize chess club for over 100 students.
Classroom Enrichment: The PTA provides funds to each classroom teacher and specialist to use for items they need or deem important in their classrooms.
Communication Folders and Planners: Printing costs for communication folders and/or planners for each student.
Fifth Grade Picnic: PTA volunteers create an afternoon of fun for fifth grade students on the last day of school.
Gardening/Green Team: Coordinate PTA volunteers and resources for enhancing the grounds around the school building.
Gifts for others: Funds to send flowers to staff members in times of birth, illness, death, etc. and students' families in times of death in the immediate family.
Grade Level Project Fund: Funds are available for teachers to work on special projects with other classrooms within the same grade level.
Grandparent’s Day: assist in the much-anticipated Grandparent’s Day at Island Lake.
Kindergarten Round-up: Funds provided to encourage school spirit and awareness to incoming families.
Lego League: staff and organize groups of students to create and explore the world of Lego League.
Library Funding: direct monetary donation to the IMC to expand the collection.
Science Fair: provide volunteers and funds to help support the annual science fair.
Special Events: The PTA plans and coordinates school-wide and community events such as the spring carnival, Talent Show, family nights, Run with the Wolves.
Spirit Wear: Purchase and sell clothing, water bottles, lanyards, etc to promote school spirit.
Teacher Appreciation: Providing a meal for teachers during conferences and other staff-related events.
Vision and Hearing Screening: Annual screening for students, staffed in part by PTA volunteers.
Yearbook: Design, prepare, print and sell yearbook.
How is the PTA funded?
Annual Fundraiser - Each year the PTA researchs and implements a major fundraiser in the fall to help support our programs. In recent years, we have done catalog sales and the Apex Fun Run.
School Carnival - A fun-filled evening complete with games, prizes, and silent auction.
Book Fair - the PTA partners with Scholastic Books to host a fall and spring book fair.
Run with the Wolves-Annually in June. This event brings together the community to run/walk the nearby neighborhood. Visit the Run with the Wolves site!
Read-a-thon-Children participate in our read-a-thon to raise money and earn books while encouraging literacy.
Box Tops For Education-Clip and collect Box Tops! Our goal is to raise $4000 each year!
